The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s sweeping victory in the recent Ekiti State governorship election reflects growing public support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, expressing confidence that a similar outcome would be recorded in the 2027 presidential election.
Umahi made the remarks on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji to the Federal Ministry of Works headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja, his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, said
Congratulating the governor on his electoral victory, the minister also hailed President Tinubu and the APC, describing the Ekiti poll as a strong endorsement of the administration's infrastructure development agenda.
According to Umahi, the President's commitment to road construction and equitable infrastructure distribution across the country has strengthened public confidence in the ruling party.
He said the Federal Government was addressing road infrastructure challenges nationwide, noting that every state, including the Federal Capital Territory, was benefiting from ongoing interventions.
The minister expressed optimism that President Tinubu would enjoy similar public support in the 2027 presidential election, citing the outcome of the Ekiti governorship poll as an indication of the administration's growing acceptance.
Umahi also assured the Ekiti governor that the newly approved Ado–Ijan–Ilumoba–Ikole Road project would be awarded through a transparent procurement process, adding that the state government would be kept informed to enable proper monitoring of the contractor.
Earlier, Governor Oyebanji attributed the APC's unprecedented victory in Ekiti to President Tinubu's intervention in critical road infrastructure and Umahi's commitment to implementing the President's approvals.
He said the reconstruction of the Itawure–Aramoko–Ado Road ended years of abandoned promises and restored confidence among residents.
According to the governor, contractors were mobilised to the project site within weeks of the President's approval after Umahi facilitated the request, demonstrating the administration's commitment to delivering projects promptly.
Oyebanji said the swift execution of the road project generated widespread appreciation for President Tinubu, contributing significantly to the APC's landslide victory across all 16 local government areas and 177 wards, where the party secured 85.6 per cent of the total votes cast.
The governor further disclosed that President Tinubu approved the construction of the Ado–Ijan–Ilumoba–Ikole Road shortly after he presented his certificate of return, describing the project as another critical infrastructure intervention for the state.
He said his visit to the ministry was to thank Umahi for his support and to convey the appreciation of the people of Ekiti to President Tinubu for what he described as unprecedented federal interventions in roads, agriculture and healthcare.
Oyebanji described the Tinubu administration as the most impactful since the creation of Ekiti State, saying residents now have a greater sense of inclusion through the Federal Government's development projects.
He also expressed confidence that the people of the state would continue to support the President in future elections.
