The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to equitable road infrastructure development across Nigeria, saying the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is ensuring that all states benefit from ongoing federal road and bridge projects.
Umahi made the remarks during a meeting with Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, at the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja, where both leaders discussed strategic road projects and infrastructure development in the state, the Director, Information and Public Relations,
Mohammed A. Ahmed, said in a statement on Thursday.
The minister said the Tinubu administration had adopted a fair approach to infrastructure distribution, noting that communities previously neglected in federal road investments were now receiving attention.
He recalled that during his eight years as Governor of Ebonyi State, the state had little federal road intervention, adding that Ekiti and several other states experienced similar challenges before the current administration.
According to Umahi, the Ministry remains committed to delivering durable, high-quality roads that will improve connectivity, stimulate economic activities and support the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda.
He assured the Ekiti governor that all ongoing federal road contracts in the state would be executed in line with engineering standards and the provisions of the Public Procurement Act, stressing that contractors were selected through a transparent process. He added that the state government would be kept informed to facilitate effective monitoring of project implementation.
Earlier, Governor Oyebanji commended President Tinubu and the Minister of Works for the Federal Government's road infrastructure interventions in Ekiti State.
He cited the reconstruction of the Ado–Iyin–Aramoko Road, saying the project, which had remained abandoned for years despite repeated promises by previous administrations, commenced shortly after presidential approval.
The governor noted that the rapid mobilisation of contractors demonstrated the Federal Government's resolve to execute critical infrastructure projects without delay and boosted public confidence in the administration.
Oyebanji also expressed appreciation for the approval of the Ado–Ijan–Ikole Road project, describing it as a strategic corridor that would improve transportation, facilitate trade and enhance economic activities within Ekiti State and neighbouring regions.
According to the governor, no administration since the creation of Ekiti State has matched the current level of federal commitment to the state's infrastructure development, adding that residents now have a stronger sense of inclusion through the government's interventions in roads and other key sectors.
He said his visit to the Ministry was to convey the appreciation of the people of Ekiti to President Tinubu and the Minister of Works for their commitment to transforming the state's road network.
The meeting highlighted the continued collaboration between the Federal Government and the Ekiti State Government in advancing infrastructure development and promoting economic growth through improved road connectivity.
