The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to public sector reforms aimed at improving operational efficiency, strengthening institutional performance, and creating a results-driven governance structure capable of supporting Nigeria’s economic growth agenda.
Speaking at the International Civil Service Conference 2026, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said the current administration is prioritising reforms that will simplify government procedures, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, and enhance service delivery across public institutions
Addressing stakeholders at the conference themed “Reforms, Resilience and Results,” the Minister noted that excessive bureaucracy remains a major obstacle to productivity, investment efficiency, and effective governance.
According to him, simplifying processes and embracing innovation are essential to improving the ease of doing business and strengthening investor confidence in Nigeria’s public institutions.
“Complexity is the enemy of progress,” the Minister stated, stressing that modern governance must focus on measurable outcomes, accountability, and institutional efficiency.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo explained that the administration’s reform agenda is designed to reposition the public service as a more responsive and performance-oriented system capable of supporting national development objectives.
He noted that effective reforms require proper identification of challenges, strategic planning, and implementation mechanisms that deliver tangible results.
The Minister further emphasised the importance of data-driven decision-making and institutional collaboration in achieving sustainable reforms, particularly in areas relating to internal security, migration management, and public administration.
Industry leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, and development stakeholders who attended the session highlighted the growing importance of governance reforms in attracting investment, improving regulatory processes, and boosting economic competitiveness.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also commended civil servants within the Ministry of Interior for their role in advancing ongoing reforms and improving operational outcomes within the Ministry.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity, leveraging technology, and improving efficiency in line with the Federal Government’s broader economic and governance reform agenda.
