As the deadline for the conduct and completion of primaries for the 2027 general election approaches, political parties and their various aspirants are working round the clock to ensure they beat the INEC deadline.
In line with that, one of the leading presidential aspirants under the platform of Peoples’ Redemption Party (PRP), Engr. Yakubu Mohammed on Monday, May 18th submitted his nomination form in line with the guidelines of his party and INEC.
While responding to questions from reporters after submitting his nomination form, Mohammed explained that if he secures his party’s ticket and wins the presidency, Nigeria will experience a fundamental shift on how power operates.
According to him, “under my watch, sovereignty and decision making authority will return to the citizens who are the true source of legitimacy in a democracy. Instead of leaders treating public office as a platform for personal control and patronage, governance will become responsive, accountable, and driven by the needs of the people; unlike what is currently obtainable in the country where power is concentrated at the top, and citizens are expected to serve the interests of the political elites rather than the other way around”
According to him, when power is vested on the people; policy priorities will be determined by public consultation and verified needs, not through elite bargaining. He says that public fund will be spent transparently with citizens being able to demand explanations; and leaders will be judged on their performance and integrity, while the Civil Society and the ordinary people will have a direct role in over sighting the activities of their elected leaders.
He further stated that a nation does not collapse in a single moment; it erodes quietly through the quality of men and women it elevates to power. What we are witnessing in Nigeria currently is not just a failure of governance, but a deeper, almost total breakdown of the system, and corruption of the very process by which leadership is chosen in the country. With committed and resilience leader, things will be turned around again for good in the country.
The presidential hopeful assured that his leadership will be people centred in line with the policy of his party which ideology centres on championing the interest of the masses, social justice and populist governance. He promised to unveil the full detail of his proposed contractual bond for the good people of Nigeria, the moment he secures the ticket of his party.
While assuring of his commitment to a great Nigeria, he called on all well-meaning citizens with the interest of the nation at heart to rally round him to salvage the country, while reaffirming that we have no other nation we may call our own, than Nigeria, irrespective of our religion and tribe.
