The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the release of the Nigerian nationals that were detained in Cape Verde.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to happily inform that the Nigerian nationals (ladies) that were detained in Cape Verde have all been released and they have left the country too. The Ministry engaged Cape Verde authorities via our Mission in Guinea Bissau to secure their release.
"The 6 ladies travelled to Cape Verde for holiday and were unfortunately detained on allegations of trafficking which turned out to be false," Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa said while announcing the release on Thursday in Abuja.
The six Nigerians tourists were said to had travelled from Senegal to Cape Verde Island on a vacation, but on arrival at Cape Verde, they were pulled out of the line and accused of not having enough funds.
The Cape Verde Authorities thus had their phones confiscated.
"The tourists are David James Udoh, Lily Dada, Oghenero Adaware, Sherifat Abimbola Ogundairo and Jesutomi Aina, and the travel agent / tourist company, ìrìn travels (@irintravels and (@theFARAWAY )."
