The high-level briefing, held on Saturday in Cotonou, brought together key stakeholders to harmonise approaches and strengthen collaboration in supporting a credible and transparent electoral process.
The meeting focused on exchanging views and building consensus on how best to monitor the conduct of the election and voting operations across the country.
Among those in attendance were Sylvestre Ntibantunganya, representing the African Union Election Observation Mission; Dr Bossman Asare of the Association of African Electoral Authorities (AAEA); Ambassador Afo Ousmane Salifou; Levinia Addae-Mensah of the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP); and Ambassador Désiré Nyaruhirira, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie.
Akufo-Addo was accompanied by senior ECOWAS officials, including Commissioner Abdel Fatau Musah, ECOWAS Resident Representative in Benin Amadou Diongue, Representative of ECOWAS Member States’ Ambassadors Dimban Lene, and Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr of the ECOWAS Parliament.
The engagement underscores ongoing efforts by regional and international bodies to coordinate observation activities and ensure the integrity of the electoral process in Benin.
The presidential election, set for April 12, is being closely monitored by multiple observer missions, reflecting its significance for democratic governance and political stability in the region.
