The Minister of Works, David Umahi, on Saturday joined other prominent political figures at the burial of former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Barinada Barry Mpigi, in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The funeral drew a large gathering of dignitaries from across the country, reflecting the late senator’s influence and legacy as a dedicated public servant and lawmaker.
Among those in attendance were President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; and former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, among other notable personalities.
According to Umahi's Special Assistant on Media, Francis Uwaze, on Saturday, the funeral service, held at the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion Koroma Deanery Beth-El Church, was marked by solemnity and deep reflection, as mourners paid their final respects to the late lawmaker.
Delivering the sermon, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ogoni, Ven. T.S.D. Kagbara, urged attendees to reflect on the brevity of life and the importance of spiritual commitment.
“This place we are is not our everlasting home. In heaven, there is no more hunger, no more death, no more darkness… Jesus will be the light. We have to give our lives to Jesus. All things will pass away but those who do the will of God will live everlasting life,” he said.
Senator Mpigi was widely remembered for his contributions to legislative development and public service, particularly during his tenure in the Senate.
