The Federal Government has clarified that Nigerians in the United Kingdom applying for international passports through the ongoing special passport intervention exercise will not pay any charges beyond the officially approved fees.
The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, expressed concern over the inconveniences being experienced by some Nigerians in the UK during the ongoing passport application and processing exercise, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alao Babatunde said in a statement on Monday.
The special intervention, the Minister explained, was introduced to provide additional options and make passport processing more accessible to Nigerians resident in the United Kingdom.
He stressed that the exercise does not attract any additional fees outside the official charges of $150 for a five-year validity passport and $230 for a 10-year validity passport, excluding bank charges.
“The Ministry of Interior and the Nigeria Immigration Service have not introduced any other charges outside the aforementioned,” the statement said.
Tunji-Ojo further disclosed that the Ministry of Interior was engaging the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address the challenges associated with the intervention and prevent further inconvenience to applicants.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to improving service delivery and providing support to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.
The Minister also advised applicants to take advantage of the contactless biometric passport application system, designed to make the application process more seamless and convenient.
