Nigeria Decries Renewed Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia

The Federal Government has strongly condemned the renewed attacks by the Houthi militia in Yemen on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, warning that the escalation could threaten regional security and stability in the Middle East.

The attacks, which took place on Monday, September 7, 2026, reportedly left scores of civilians injured and caused damage to civil infrastructure.

Nigeria said the fresh hostilities represented a serious threat to the sovereignty and security of Saudi Arabia and could further worsen tensions in the region, a statement by the Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, said on Tuesday.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Federal Government called on all parties involved to respect international law, exercise maximum restraint and refrain from actions capable of escalating the conflict.

Nigeria expressed concern that continued violence could put more civilian lives at risk, undermine regional peace and security, and disrupt global energy supplies.

The government also expressed solidarity with the Government and people of Saudi Arabia, praying for the speedy recovery of those injured in the attacks.

It reiterated Nigeria's commitment to supporting peace initiatives and conciliatory mechanisms aimed at restoring regional peace, strengthening international security and promoting stability.
