The Federal Government has commissioned 37 electric buses as the first instalment of the 100 Renewed Hope Mass Transit Electric Buses acquired for Federal Civil Servants.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, disclosed this on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the commissioning ceremony held at Eagle Square, Abuja.
Walson-Jack, who delivered the address, said the initiative was another practical demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare and well-being of civil servants.
She described the commissioning as a “dream come true” and said it was particularly significant as she would be leaving office as Head of the Civil Service of the Federation within 24 hours.
According to her, the buses would help reduce the financial, physical and safety burdens associated with daily commuting, while improving punctuality, productivity and the overall welfare of civil servants.
“Transport is about far more than moving people from one place to another. For many Civil Servants, the daily commute shapes their finances, their safety, their punctuality, and ultimately their productivity,” she said.
The HCSF said the intervention demonstrated that the Renewed Hope Agenda was being translated into tangible benefits for workers, alongside other measures including the upward review of the national minimum wage, wage award, digitalisation of government services, renewed attention to pensions, promotions, employee compensation and health insurance.
She disclosed that the acquisition of the 100 buses was made possible through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund.
Walson-Jack urged the authorities responsible for managing the buses to ensure their sustainability through regular maintenance, qualified drivers, passenger safety, cleanliness and effective monitoring.
She said operations would commence with a pilot phase on selected routes, while the full rollout of the Federal Civil Service Renewed Hope Mass Transit would follow after all necessary arrangements were completed.
She also disclosed that a Special Purpose Vehicle had been established to ensure the proper management, maintenance and long-term sustainability of the buses, adding that the buses would eventually be deployed, as appropriate, to Federal Secretariats across the states.
The HCSF commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support for the welfare of civil servants and appreciated the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Chris Isokpunwu, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh, the National Automotive Design and Development Council, the Service Welfare Office and other stakeholders for their contributions to the project.
She urged civil servants who would benefit from the initiative to reciprocate the government’s investment through improved punctuality, productivity and dedication to duty.
Walson-Jack noted that a motivated and properly supported workforce was essential to achieving faster, better and more responsive public service delivery.
