The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, has met with Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio to discuss the progress of the ongoing ECOWAS Mid-Year Statutory Meetings in Freetown.
The courtesy visit, held at the State House on Tuesday, underscored the close collaboration between the ECOWAS Commission and the Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government as the regional body's statutory meetings entered a critical phase.
During the meeting, Dr. Touray updated President Bio on preparations and key developments from the meetings, while expressing gratitude to the Sierra Leonean government for hosting the event and providing the support needed for its successful conduct.
He lauded President Bio's leadership of the ECOWAS Authority, describing his stewardship as instrumental in advancing regional integration and promoting peace, stability and sustainable development across West Africa.
President Bio was joined by Sierra Leone's Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba.
The ECOWAS delegation included Vice-President of the Commission, Mrs. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, ECOWAS Resident Representative in Sierra Leone, Ambassador John Azumah, and Director of Cabinet in the Office of the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Mr. Abdou Kolley.
The visit formed part of activities surrounding the ECOWAS Mid-Year Statutory Meetings currently taking place in Sierra Leone, where regional leaders and officials are deliberating on issues affecting integration, governance, peace and economic development in West Africa.
