The Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Engr. Dr. Osita Ngwu, has pledged to support efforts to address the Right-of-Way (RoW) challenges delaying the commissioning of the 9th Mile 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Enugu State.
The commitment was made during the Senator's visit to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) facility on Saturday, July 11, 2026, where he was received by the Assistant General Manager (Transmission), Enugu Sub-Region, Engr. Madu, and other management staff, Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, said in a statement on Wednesday.
During the visit, Engr. Madu explained that although the substation was completed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) in 2022, it has remained idle because the approximately 22-kilometre New Haven–9th Mile 132kV double-circuit transmission line has not been completed.
He identified persistent Right-of-Way constraints as the major obstacle preventing the completion of the transmission line, stressing that its completion is essential for energising and commissioning the substation.
According to him, once operational, the facility will significantly improve bulk electricity supply to the 9th Mile industrial hub and neighbouring communities. He also highlighted the need for enhanced security to protect the infrastructure from vandalism before commissioning.
Responding, Senator Ngwu acknowledged the urgency of resolving the outstanding issues and assured TCN of his support in addressing the Right-of-Way challenges while also working to strengthen security around the facility.
The visit ended with a guided tour of the control room, switchyard and other key installations at the substation.
