The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has inducted 73 Public Relations Officers into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), reinforcing its commitment to strengthening strategic communication and promoting professionalism within its public relations cadre.
The officers were inducted after successfully completing the NIPR Training and Certification Programme held at the Service Headquarters in Abuja.
Representing the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Visa and Residency, Florence U. Nwanneka, urged the newly certified officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism while discharging their responsibilities.
She charged them to proactively shape public perception, combat misinformation, respond effectively during crises, and strengthen public confidence in the Service as it advances technology-driven reforms in migration management and border security.
Nwanneka also commended the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations for collaborating with the Service to institutionalise global best practices in public relations.
President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, who conducted the induction ceremony, encouraged the officers to remain committed to ethical practice, professionalism and continuous learning, describing the qualities as indispensable for effective public relations practitioners.
In his remarks, the Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, said the programme reflected Comptroller-General Nandap's commitment to capacity building and the standardisation of public relations practice across the Nigeria Immigration Service.
He thanked the NIPR, facilitators, resource persons and other stakeholders for contributing to the success of the training and urged the newly inducted officers to deploy their newly acquired knowledge and skills in enhancing public engagement and advancing the Service's communication objectives.
According to the Service, the successful training and induction demonstrate its commitment to continuous professional development through strategic partnerships and specialised training programmes aimed at strengthening its core mandates of migration management and border governance.
