The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has held talks with the President of San José State University (SJSU), Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, on strengthening educational, technological and cultural collaboration between Nigeria and the United States.
A major outcome of the meeting was the proposed Silicon Valley Tech Bridge initiative, a specialised summer programme designed to equip young Nigerians with skills in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, semiconductors and medical devices.
The programme is expected to combine intensive academic training at San José State University with practical industry exposure at leading technology companies such as Adobe, LinkedIn and Jabil, particularly during Black Engineer Week. Participants will also have opportunities to network with members of the Nigerian diaspora in Silicon Valley.
The discussions also covered plans for a Fulbright Leadership Exchange programme aimed at expanding academic and professional partnerships between Nigeria and the United States.
In addition, both sides explored cultural initiatives, including the creation of murals celebrating Nigeria's rich heritage within the university community.
The proposed partnership aligns with NIDCOM's mandate to leverage the expertise and networks of Nigerians in the diaspora to promote human capital development and strengthen connections between Nigeria and global innovation hubs.
