The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of OilDynamix Limited, Dr. Vincent Amu, has unveiled what he described as a groundbreaking mineral exploration technology capable of identifying mineral deposits across Africa within months, significantly reducing costs and improving accuracy in mining operations.
Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the 5th African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS), Dr. Amu said the technology, known as Thermovision Tomography, has the potential to transform mineral exploration by providing highly accurate data at a fraction of conventional costs.
"The greatest takeaway from this AFNIS is that we have gotten a technology that can unlock all the vast potentials of minerals in Africa and Nigeria within a few months. We' are not talking about years but a few months, and it is very accurate, 85 percent and 100 percent success rate in terms of project delivery," he said.
According to him, the technology has consistently delivered reliable results without any recorded client complaints.
"We used to tell clients that if they don't get what we say is there, they shouldn't pay us. That used to be our bragging right. Today, everybody knows that whatever we say is what you get," he added.
Dr. Amu explained that Oil Dynamics Limited deliberately keeps exploration costs low to encourage greater participation in the mining sector.
"While other companies may charge as much as $100,000 for a project, we can do it for about half that amount. The reason is simple—we want exploration to become less expensive because high costs and unreliable data have discouraged many investors from entering the mining industry," he stated.
The Oil Dynamics boss revealed that the company is currently deploying the technology across several African countries and is preparing to undertake a nationwide mineral mapping project in Botswana.
"For instance, we are about to map out the entire country of Botswana within one or two months. Other companies may take up to ten years to achieve the same result, but we're talking about months. We provide the quality, quantity, and exact GPS coordinates of mineral deposits," he said.
Reflecting on a recent visit to a lithium mining site, Dr. Amu commended ongoing efforts but expressed concern over the exploration methods currently being employed.
"When I asked them what method they were using to discover the deposits, they were still relying on crude methods. Such methods take longer, are more expensive, and are less reliable. With our technology, an area that may take others two years to map can be completed within a day, with results processed within three months," he explained.
He stressed that inaccurate geological data remains one of the biggest challenges facing the mining industry.
"Many companies have been told there is gold or diamonds in a location, only to discover otherwise after investing heavily. Even when minerals are found, the quantity often falls short of projections. Accurate information is the foundation of profitable mining," he noted.
On government support for indigenous miners, Dr. Amu called for targeted incentives to boost local participation and competitiveness in the sector.
"One of the incentives government can provide is duty-free importation of mining equipment. Countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo are already doing this. Import duties significantly increase operational costs for miners," he said.
He also urged authorities to simplify the licensing process and reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks.
"If government can reduce red tape in obtaining mining licences, it will encourage more Nigerians to invest in the sector. There should also be tax holidays for young mining companies during their first two or three years of operation," he suggested.
Highlighting the security and operational advantages of Thermovision Tomography, Dr. Amu said the technology eliminates the need for large field teams and expensive equipment.
"We don't need bulldozers, tractors, or large teams moving through difficult terrain. We can map an area remotely. I can sit in Lagos and map South Africa, Sudan, or any location. This makes the process cheaper, safer, and more reliable while reducing exposure to security risks such as kidnapping," he explained.
The Oil Dynamics CEO disclosed that the technology, introduced in Nigeria in 2019, has gained increasing acceptance among mining companies and state governments.
"Last year, when we presented this technology, we received tremendous interest. Today, some of those companies are already mining based on our results. We are working with stakeholders in Cross River, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Benue, and Kogi States, and many more are lining up," he said.
Explaining how the innovation works, Dr. Amu said Thermovision Tomography utilizes thermal signatures emitted by minerals beneath the earth's surface.
"'Thermo' in Latin means heat. Unlike conventional methods that rely on electrical signals or seismic sound waves, our technology detects heat emanating from minerals. We use data captured by American satellites such as Landsat and MODIS, combined with our patented analytical processes, to identify and map mineral resources with remarkable accuracy," he explained.
He expressed optimism that wider adoption of the technology would accelerate mineral development across Africa and position indigenous companies at the forefront of the continent's mining revolution.
