The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the speedy implementation of the Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) Project in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on food security and sustainable development.
This assurance was given by the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Terlumun Utsev, during a strategic meeting with the World Bank implementation team held in Abuja.
The Minister, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Emanso Umobong, received the World Bank delegation led by Zacharias Ziegelhofer alongside team members Parvin and Chinedu Umolu, a statement by the .Director Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Funmi Imuetinyan, said on Thursday.
Also present at the meeting were key technical directors of the Ministry, including the Director of Dams and Reservoir Operations, Engr. Ali Ibrahim Dallah; the Director of Irrigation and Drainage, Engr. Oyeronke Oluniyi; the Director of River Basin Operations and Inspectorate, Engr. Christy Oduh; heads of the Ministry’s technical units on Irrigation and Drainage and Dams; representatives of the Ministry of Power; as well as the National Coordinator of the SPIN Project, Ipinlaye Olaiya, and other members of the SPIN Project team.
Discussions during the meeting focused on the ongoing World Bank mission to review progress under the SPIN Project, strengthen institutional coordination, improve procurement processes, accelerate implementation activities, and scale up project delivery across participating states.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of capacity building, technical readiness, and operational efficiency to ensure the smooth and timely execution of the project.
The SPIN Project is expected to enhance irrigation infrastructure, improve power supply, and support Nigeria’s drive towards food security and sustainable economic growth.
