The Federal Government has formally inaugurated Chairmen and members of Governing Boards of agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education, reaffirmed the reappointment of Chief Executive Officers of its parastatals, and announced the appointment of a Rector for a federal polytechnic as well as principal officers for the Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship, Bama.
Speaking at the ceremony held Wednesday at the TETFund Auditorium in Maitama, Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the event reflects the government’s commitment to repositioning education as a cornerstone of national development.
He noted that the inauguration underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, deepen reforms, and drive transformation across all levels of the education sector.
The Minister commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as “visionary leadership” and sustained support for education under the Renewed Hope Agenda. According to him, the administration’s investments and policy direction have created an enabling environment for far-reaching reforms focused on human capital development.
Addressing the newly inaugurated board members, Alausa said their appointments were based on competence, integrity, and commitment to national service. He charged them with providing strategic oversight, ensuring accountability, and supporting agency management to deliver measurable results.
“You must serve as a bridge between policy and implementation, inspiring confidence through transparency, discipline, and results,” he said.
The Minister also congratulated the newly appointed principal officers of the Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship, Bama, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Bursar, and Librarian, describing them as pioneer leaders with the responsibility of laying a solid institutional foundation.
He urged them to build strong academic programmes, promote impactful research, invest in faculty development, and ensure student welfare while fostering strategic partnerships.
For the reappointed Chief Executive Officers, Alausa said their return reflects performance and institutional stability but cautioned against complacency. He urged them to consolidate gains, deepen reforms, and accelerate progress across the system.
On the newly appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’Yak-Shendam, the Minister emphasized the critical role of polytechnics in advancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), skills acquisition, and industrialization. He tasked the Rector with producing graduates equipped with practical competencies, entrepreneurial capacity, and industry-relevant skills.
Alausa highlighted that the education sector is currently undergoing comprehensive, data-driven reforms focused on improving quality, expanding access, integrating technology, and aligning outcomes with global standards.
He identified key challenges facing the sector, including learning poverty, gaps in teacher quality, infrastructure deficits, and weak research and innovation systems.
The Minister said ongoing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda include curriculum upgrades, digitalization of education systems, expansion of TVET programmes, and strengthened data-driven decision-making.
He further stressed the importance of prudent resource management, adherence to due process, and compliance with regulations, noting that public trust depends on integrity and accountability.
Alausa reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to policy coherence, enhanced monitoring and evaluation, and collaboration across agencies in line with the government’s One Government Approach.
He concluded by formally inaugurating the board members, affirming the appointments, and wishing all appointees a successful and impactful tenure in service to the nation.
In her welcome address, Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, described the occasion as a critical step in repositioning Nigeria’s education sector for improved service delivery, credibility, and global competitiveness.
She noted that under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the education sector is receiving renewed attention through reforms, strategic investments, and policies aimed at expanding access and improving quality.
The Minister highlighted ongoing reforms in key agencies such as the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). According to her, NECO is leveraging technology to enhance the credibility of public examinations, while NBTE is advancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) through modernized curricula, improved accreditation processes, and stronger industry alignment.
