Nigeria, Saudi Arabia Strengthen Ties On Security, Technology, Emergency Response


Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations with the Saudi Arabia, with a focus on enhancing cooperation in security, technology, and emergency response systems.

The Honourable Minister of Interior made this known during a high-level engagement with the Saudi Ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, and his delegation. The Minister emphasized the longstanding relationship between both countries, describing it as one built on mutual respect, shared interests, and nearly five decades of sustained collaboration.

He noted that the presence of multiple Consuls General at the meeting underscored the importance both nations place on the partnership. According to him, the collaboration is expected to continue evolving, strengthening institutional ties and delivering greater value, particularly between relevant ministries.

The Minister identified key areas of mutual interest, including border security, management of irregular migration, and crisis response systems. He acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s advanced technological infrastructure for border control and expressed Nigeria’s interest in adopting similar systems through structured knowledge exchange and official delegation visits.

He further highlighted the establishment of a National Internal Emergency Response System as a priority, stressing the importance of leveraging Saudi Arabia’s expertise in innovation, public safety, and coordinated emergency management to enhance Nigeria’s internal security framework.

In his remarks, Ambassador Al-Balawi reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Nigeria across critical sectors. He pointed to his country’s experience in traffic management, civil defence, correctional services, and large-scale crowd control operations, particularly during major religious events.

The ambassador also highlighted advancements in digital security systems and citizen engagement platforms that enable real-time reporting and rapid response to safety concerns.

Both parties expressed readiness to explore practical areas of collaboration, strengthen institutional capacity, and sustain dialogue aimed at promoting security, stability, and shared prosperity between both countries.
