he Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured a two-week remand order against a traffic offender who assaulted one of its patrol team leaders during an enforcement operation in Karu, Nasarawa State.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, condemned the attack, describing it as unacceptable and a threat to the safety of personnel carrying out lawful duties.
A statement was issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaer, said that the incident occurred on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at ECWA Junction, Karu, when the suspect, identified as Abdulkadri Adamu, allegedly resisted arrest while operating an overloaded Nissan Almera with registration number YAB 796 EQ.
According to the FRSC, the situation escalated after the driver refused to comply with traffic directives and physically attacked the patrol team leader. The suspect reportedly lifted the officer and forcefully threw him to the ground, causing serious injuries.
The injured officer was immediately taken to a medical facility in Karu, where he received emergency treatment. He has since regained consciousness and is undergoing further medical care for injuries, including suspected fractures.
The suspect was apprehended with the assistance of members of the public and handed over to the police for prosecution.
At his arraignment, the offender did not deny the charges brought against him. The presiding judge subsequently ordered a two-week remand, which will lapse on April 23, 2026.
Reacting to the development, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed concern over the increasing cases of assault on FRSC personnel and reiterated the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding its officers.
He warned that any act of aggression against FRSC operatives would be met with the full weight of the law, while urging motorists to respect constituted authorities and cooperate with enforcement officers.
“FRSC personnel are on the roads to save lives and ensure safer highways for all Nigerians,” he stated.
