The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded a major breakthrough in its enforcement drive against traffic violations and assaults on its personnel, following the remand of a traffic offender by a Magistrate Court in Nasarawa State.
The suspect, identified as Suleiman Abubakar, was on Thursday, April 16, 2026, remanded at the Nasarawa Correctional Centre for seven days after being arraigned on multiple charges.
According to a statement was issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri., Abubakar was apprehended along the Nasarawa–Keffi route at about 3:00 p.m. while driving a Toyota Previa with registration number KMC 566CY. He was initially stopped for overloading but was subsequently found to be driving without a valid driver’s licence.
FRSC officials disclosed that the suspect attempted to bribe operatives of the RS4.33 Nasarawa Unit Command, an offer that was rejected. The situation escalated when the suspect allegedly abducted the Patrol Team Leader in a bid to evade arrest.
The Corps said the officer resisted and managed to neutralise the situation after the vehicle had travelled approximately three kilometres from the point of interception.
Following his arrest, the vehicle was impounded and the suspect handed over to the Nigeria Police, Nasarawa Division, for prosecution.
At the court hearing, Abubakar pleaded guilty to all five charges filed against him. The presiding Magistrate subsequently ordered his remand, with judgment scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Reacting to the development, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed commended the judiciary for its swift action and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to enforcing traffic laws and protecting its personnel.
He noted that the FRSC is making steady progress in tackling assaults on its officers, with offenders increasingly being prosecuted and brought to justice.
