The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded another operational success with the recovery of a suspected stolen vehicle in Ekiti State through its National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) platform.
The breakthrough occurred on March 23, 2026, during routine manual uploads at the NVIS Desk Office in Ado Ekiti. The discovery underscores the Corps’ ongoing efforts to strengthen vehicle documentation systems and curb automobile-related crimes nationwide.
According to the FRSC, the alert was triggered when a Motor Vehicle Officer from Emure Local Government Area submitted vehicle details that raised suspicion. The chassis number provided did not align with the standard manufacturer’s sequence for a 2006 Toyota Camry.
Acting on the discrepancy, the NVIS Desk Officer corrected the chassis number and conducted a search on the NVIS database. The revised details matched a vehicle that had been reported stolen two years earlier.
Further verification with the original owner confirmed the theft, prompting immediate action by the Corps.
After briefing the State Licensing Officer and the Sector Commander, efforts were made to invite the suspect for verification. However, when the suspect failed to comply, the case was escalated to the Nigeria Police.
Acting on intelligence, officers from Irewolede Police Station in Ilorin recovered the vehicle on March 31, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m. in Emure Ekiti.
The FRSC described the recovery as a testament to effective inter-agency collaboration and the efficiency of the NVIS database in protecting vehicle ownership records.
The Corps reiterated its commitment to tackling vehicle-related fraud and urged members of the public to ensure proper documentation and verification of vehicle details.
It also reaffirmed its mandate to promote road safety, enhance national security, and protect citizens through intelligence-driven operations and strategic enforcement.
