FRSC Cracks Down on Deadly Mixed Loading in Kaduna, Intercepts Vehicles During Easter Patrol

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna State Sector Command, has intensified enforcement against the dangerous practice of mixed loading, intercepting several articulated vehicles transporting a combination of passengers, animals, and goods.

The operation, carried out as part of the ongoing Easter Special Patrol, followed directives from the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed. It was led by the Kaduna Sector Commander, Corps Commander Tijani Iliyasu.

According to a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, on Monday, the intercepted vehicles were conveying over 100 passengers alongside livestock and cargo along major routes in the state, a practice the agency described as highly hazardous.

Corps Marshal Mohammed condemned mixed loading as a serious threat to road safety, noting that it significantly increases the risk of fatalities in the event of a crash. He explained that passengers in such situations are vulnerable to being crushed by shifting goods or injured by animals, reducing their chances of survival.

He further warned that beyond the immediate danger to human lives, mixed loading compromises vehicle stability and braking efficiency, thereby heightening the likelihood of road traffic accidents.

The Corps reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on traffic violations, stressing that offenders will face arrest and possible prosecution. Drivers and transport operators were urged to desist from unsafe practices, particularly during the Easter period when road traffic volume is typically high.

The FRSC also called on road users to adopt responsible driving habits and comply with traffic regulations, emphasizing that road safety is a shared responsibility.

The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property through sustained enforcement, intelligence-driven patrols, and public awareness campaigns.
