ECOWAS, EU Strengthen Dialogue On Regional Stability, Integration, Global Challenges

The  Economic Community States of West Africa, (ECOWAS) and the European Union have consolidated strategic dialogue on strengthening cooperation on regional stability, integration and the implications of global geopolitical developments on West Africa.

This took place when Dr Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, received Ms Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, in Abuja on Monday for for a high-level engagement in Abuja.

The meeting reaffirmed the strength of the ECOWAS–European Union partnership and its central role in addressing shared regional challenges.

Both leaders underscored the importance of preserving the core achievements of regional integration, strengthening coordinated responses to evolving security dynamics and addressing the socio-economic impact of global developments, particularly in relation to food security and energy pressures. 

The engagement reflects a shared commitment to deepen strategic cooperation and to advance a stable, resilient and integrated West African region.
