Petroleum Ministry Holds Training on EyeMark Application for Technical Officers

The Ministry of Petroleum Resources has organized a capacity-building session for selected Techical Officers on the use of the EyeMark Application, a digital innovation designed to strengthen the monitoring and evaluation of government projects, programmes, and policies across the country.

Declaring the session open at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, MPR. represented by the Deputy Director, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), Mrs. Hafsat Haruna, explained that the EyeMark Application, introduced in 2022, serves as a centralized database for all government projects nationwide. She noted that the platform enhances transparency, accountability, and real-time project tracking, in line with the Federal Government’s commitment to effective governance and service delivery.

According to a statement by the Head, Press & Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, said that she added that recent updates to the platform have further improved its functionality and user experience, making it more responsive to the monitoring needs of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

“The training is designed to equip nominated officers of the Ministry with the technical competence to operate the EyeMark platform effectively. These officers will, in turn, serve as focal points to guide other staff within the Ministry in utilizing the application for data entry, project tracking, and performance evaluation,” she stated.

Facilitators at the session highlighted that the EyeMark platform employs unique ARGB codes to identify and track projects nationwide. They further explained that the system integrates a citizen feedback feature that allows Nigerians to assess the progress, impact, and quality of government projects in their localities.

In addition, participants were informed that an internal Management Information System has been incorporated into the platform to manage sensitive government data securely. Access to this feature is restricted to authorized officials, including the Honourable Ministers, to ensure confidentiality and data integrity.

Participants who were drawn from various technical departments as well as the Departments of Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS), Finance and Accounts and Procurement were encouraged to collaborate closely in uploading, validating, and maintaining project data on the platform. They were also tasked with the responsibilities of compiling recommendations for improving the operational efficiency of the EyeMark system within the Ministry.

The practical session of the training was conducted by Mr. Ola Shehu, a member of the EyeMark delegation, who guided participants through a step-by-step demonstration of key functionalities such as project exploration, the monitoring forms module for 2024 capital projects, and procedures for accessing the platform via the web.

The training underscores the Ministry’s commitment to adopting innovative digital tools to enhance transparency, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making in project monitoring and evaluation.
