The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced urgent rehabilitation of vandalised sections of the Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV double-circuit transmission line in Akwa Ibom State.
The rehabilitation covers Towers J4 and N9 to N12, which were affected by recent acts of vandalism.
During an inspection of the project site on Friday, September 25, 2026, the Assistant General Manager (AGM), Transmission, Port Harcourt Region, Dr. Ubani Raymond, who represented the Regional Manager, Engr. Nasir Bello, said the exercise was aimed at ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and addressing any issues that could affect the quality of the project.
Raymond said significant progress had been recorded, adding that the vandalised towers had been completely dismantled while their bases had been recast.
He appealed to residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and protect critical power infrastructure in their communities against vandals and other criminal elements.
Also, the Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Azuh Lucky, stressed the need for continuous monitoring of the rehabilitation works to ensure strict adherence to engineering standards.
Lucky commended TCN Management for engaging two contractors to accelerate the execution of the project, noting that the strategy would help facilitate the completion of the rehabilitation within the shortest possible time.
He, however, said the difficult terrain and persistent rainfall had slowed down the pace of work at the project site.
The Principal Manager, Uyo Work Centre, Engr. Eguaikhide Clement, expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and commended the contractors for their commitment to the urgent rehabilitation of the transmission line.
TCN said the ongoing works are part of efforts to restore and safeguard critical transmission infrastructure and ensure reliable electricity transmission to communities served by the line.
