The Director of Publication, Kwara State House of Assembly (KWHA), Basirat Saka, has called on Nigerian leaders to prioritise effective implementation of policies to bridge the country’s persistent gap between formulation and execution.
Saka said Nigeria was not short of ideas or policies, but had continued to face challenges in translating them into measurable and sustainable outcomes.
She made the call in Abuja during her induction as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management (CIISM), according to a statement issued on Saturday.
The KWHA director said the value of policy was ultimately determined by its implementation, stressing that ideas without action could not deliver meaningful development.
“Formulation without implementation is hallucination. Truth defines the information and strategy management profession,” she said.
Saka noted that successive administrations had formulated numerous policies, programmes and strategies, but many had failed to produce the desired impact because of weak implementation mechanisms.
“As a new fellow of this Institute, my goal is to close the execution gap. I believe that information without action is noise, as strategy without execution is fantasy,” she said.
She urged leaders to move beyond prolonged meetings, presentations and committees and focus on clearly defined targets and measurable results.
According to her, effective implementation requires clearly assigned responsibilities, timelines, funding requirements and performance indicators.
“Let us build the discipline of Who does What, By When, and at What Cost? Let us embrace data, accountability, and consequences,” Saka added.
She expressed appreciation for the fellowship, describing it as both an honour and a responsibility to contribute to improved information and strategy management in the country.
