Nigeria’s grid-connected power plants utilised 86 per cent of their available generation capacity on average in August 2026, according to data released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The Commission published the August operational performance figures on Wednesday through its official X handle.
The Commission’s August 2026 Operational Performance Fact Sheet showed that the plants had an average available capacity of 4,758 megawatts (MW) during the month, while average utilisation stood at 4,102MW.
The report indicated strong performance by some of the country’s major generating units, with Afam_2 recording the highest load factor at 99 per cent.
Kainji_1 followed closely with a 98 per cent load factor, while Egbin_1 recorded 96 per cent.
The figures indicate that the three generating units operated close to their respective available capacities throughout the month.
NERC said the operational data provides an assessment of the performance and utilisation of Nigeria’s grid-connected generating fleet for August 2026.
