NNPC Retail Limited has commissioned its first Smart Self-Service Station in Abuja, introducing a technology-driven fuelling facility designed to provide customers with round-the-clock access to fuel and other mobility services.
The facility, located on Bill Clinton Drive, Abuja, combines conventional fuel services with electric vehicle (EV) charging, LPG dispensing, lubricant services, automated car wash and other lifestyle offerings.
A subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), NNPC Retail developed the station in partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), which provided the land for the project.
Speaking at the commissioning, NNPC Ltd’s Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mumuni Dagazau, said the facility represented another milestone in the company’s drive to improve customer experience through innovation and operational efficiency.
“Today marks another important milestone in the evolution of NNPC Retail. The launch of this Smart Station reflects our commitment to innovation, convenience, operational efficiency, and most importantly, an exceptional customer experience,” Dagazau said in a statement by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Limited, Andy Odeh, on Thursday.
The company commended the NIS for its cooperation, describing the partnership as an example of the institutional collaboration needed to deliver modern energy infrastructure across the country.
NNPC Retail’s Managing Director, Huub Stokman, said the Smart Station was developed in response to changing consumer preferences in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
He said consumers increasingly demanded quality products at competitive prices, efficient service, convenient payment options and additional energy solutions such as EV charging and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
“More than ever, we need to meet the needs of Nigerian consumers. They want quality products at the right price, prompt and friendly service, more value-added offerings and convenient payment options,” Stokman said.
He added that the facility was designed to provide customers with a broader range of services in a convenient and sustainable environment, particularly for younger consumers.
Stokman acknowledged the contributions of the NIS, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Africa Motor Works, technology partners, contractors and other stakeholders involved in delivering the project.
He reaffirmed NNPC Retail’s plan to expand the Smart Station model across Nigeria while strengthening partnerships with public and private sector institutions.
In her remarks, the Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nandap, represented by the Deputy Comptroller General, Finance and Accounts, Saidu Bashir Daura, congratulated NNPC on the commissioning.
Nandap described the facility as a model capable of promoting greater investment in sustainable energy infrastructure and innovative transportation solutions.
The station has 16 Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) pumps and two Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) pumps, with storage capacity of 180,000 litres of PMS and 5,000 litres of AGO.
It also has an electric vehicle charging facility with an 86-point capacity, developed in partnership with Africa Motor Works, as well as an LPG dispensing facility, modern lubricant service bay and fully automated car wash.
The facility has also made provision for the future installation of CNG infrastructure.
Powered by more than 200 kilowatt-hours of installed solar capacity, the station includes space for quick-service restaurants, a coffee shop and convenience store.
NNPC Retail said the combination of services was designed to position the facility as a modern mobility and lifestyle destination rather than a conventional filling station.
