The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR) and the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), has won two awards at the 2026 International Public Relations Association (IPRA) Golden World Awards (GWA) in Athens, Greece.
The awards were presented in the Artificial Intelligence in Crisis Management and Publication categories at a ceremony held at the Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens.
According to a statement by the Director of Corporate Communication and Media Relations, Mrs. Hadiza Umar, on Sunday, the recognition was based on the partners’ work on the establishment of the Crisis Communication Hub (CCHub), a national framework developed from empirical research on the application of artificial intelligence to crisis management, with support from NITDA.
The initiative is designed to strengthen crisis communication through the use of artificial intelligence, including proactive social listening, detection of misinformation, fake news and deepfakes, as well as coordinated responses to emerging digital threats.
According to the organisers, the framework brings relevant stakeholders together to improve the speed and effectiveness of communication during national crises while helping to protect public trust in the digital environment.
The awards were formally received by Hajiya Hadiza Umar, representing NITDA, alongside Professor Yau Sule of IMPR, at the international gathering in Athens.
The achievement further highlights NITDA’s efforts to promote digital literacy, responsible and ethical artificial intelligence deployment, and innovative communication strategies in Nigeria.
