The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom to October 3, 2026, following a high turnout of applicants at its London and Manchester centres.
The extension, which runs from September 19 to October 3, was approved under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to accommodate the growing demand for passport services, the Service said.
The NIS made this known in a statement signed by its Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The Service said the exercise had continued successfully at the two centres despite some challenges recorded at the commencement of the programme.
It disclosed that 1,477 Nigerians had been processed and enrolled within the first four days, while more than half of the applicants had already received their passports after production and dispatch to their addresses.
To participate in the intervention exercise, the NIS said eligible applicants must secure appointments through the website of the High Commission of Nigeria in the United Kingdom.
Applicants are also required to present their completed application forms and payment receipts, appointment slips, current passports where applicable, and self-addressed return envelopes.
The Service stressed that the passport application and payment processes remained fully automated and cashless.
It said the applicable fees were $162 for a five-year passport booklet and $242 for a 10-year booklet, adding that there were no additional charges for participation in the intervention exercise.
The NIS said details concerning the extended dates, locations and appointment procedures would be communicated through the official platforms of the Service and the High Commission of Nigeria in the United Kingdom.
It appealed to Nigerians in the UK to continue to exercise patience and cooperate with officials, assuring them of its commitment to delivering efficient, transparent and responsive passport services.
