The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced the final phase of its 2025 recruitment exercise, with shortlisted applicants undergoing documentation, physical fitness tests and medical screening in Abuja.
The two-week exercise, which began on Monday, September 7, 2026, is being conducted at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Gwagwalada, and is scheduled to end on September 19.
The exercise covers candidates shortlisted for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (ASCII), Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.
To ensure an orderly process and avoid overcrowding, candidates are being screened in batches based on the alphabetical arrangement of their states of origin.
Speaking at the screening centre, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resource Development, Frank Onyeka, urged candidates to maintain discipline and comply fully with the guidelines governing the exercise.
Onyeka said the recruitment process was not based solely on physical fitness, stressing that candidates' character, attitude and professional conduct would also be considered.
“On behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, I congratulate you on reaching this stage,” he said.
He added: “I urge you to remain orderly and strictly adhere to the guidelines. Beyond physical requirements, your attitude, discipline, and conduct are critical factors in deciding who ultimately joins the Service.”
According to him, the NCS is collaborating with the Customs Police and other relevant units to ensure the credibility and integrity of the recruitment exercise.
The Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Dow Gaura, also said measures had been put in place to make the screening process efficient.
Gaura attributed the smooth conduct of the exercise to administrative innovations and collaboration among relevant agencies and units.
“Everything happening here reflects the policy vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, which emphasised continuous operational improvement, collaboration, and innovation,” he said.
He described the exercise as seamless and hitch-free, adding that it had been conducted without casualties.
The screening of candidates for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs cadre is expected to end on Thursday, September 10, while the screening of candidates for the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres will continue until September 19, 2026.
