The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Port Harcourt Region, has commissioned a new 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer at its Afam IV Transmission Substation in Rivers State.
The transformer was commissioned on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, increasing the substation’s transformation capacity from 120MVA to 240MVA.
According to TCN, in a statement signed it's management, the project has significantly improved the company’s transmission capacity to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) load centre, enabling the DisCo to off-take more electricity for distribution to consumers in Port Harcourt metropolis and surrounding areas.
The company said the project is part of the ongoing TCN-World Bank power projects aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure and improving power supply across the country.
