The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the deployment of a special Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom from August 10, 2026, to address pending applications and improve access to passport services for Nigerians living in the country.
The initiative followed a directive by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, to deploy the team from the NIS Headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement by the Service Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, on Sunday, the team will work with the Nigerian High Commission in the UK to process pending passport applications, enrol new applicants and attend to renewal applications.
As part of the exercise, the officials are expected to visit selected cities across the United Kingdom for passport enrolment and processing, bringing the service closer to applicants in different locations.
The Service said the intervention would cover Nigerians with pending applications, first-time applicants and passport holders whose documents have less than one year before expiry and are eligible for renewal.
Applicants participating in the exercise are expected to come with their completed application forms and evidence of payment.
The NIS said the specific locations, dates, venues and enrolment times would be released in a separate announcement.
It consequently advised applicants to await the official schedule before visiting any designated location and urged them to follow the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom for updates.
Meanwhile, the Service said its digital passport application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System, would continue to operate normally during the intervention.
Applicants will also continue to have access to the passport home delivery service.
