Nigeria, U.S. Deepen Strategic Partnership on Critical Minerals Investment

Nigeria and the United States have advanced efforts to strengthen cooperation in the critical minerals sector following high-level talks at the White House aimed at attracting investment and developing resilient supply chains for minerals essential to the global energy transition.

Nigeria's Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Mr. Dele Alake, led a delegation from the Nigeria Solid Minerals Company (NSMC) to the meeting with David Copley, Special Assistant to the U.S. President and Senior Director for Global Supply Chain at the U.S. National Security Council, alongside Diana London of DCI Group.

Discussions centred on expanding collaboration across the entire critical minerals value chain, including geological exploration, mining, mineral processing, value addition and refining. The two sides also explored ways to build secure and sustainable supply chains for strategic minerals.

According to a statement by the Special Assistant to the Minister on Media Lara Owoeye-Wise, on Tuesday, the engagement is expected to deepen the Nigeria–United States strategic partnership while encouraging increased American investment in Nigeria's solid minerals industry.

The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises economic diversification, industrialisation, job creation and the attraction of strategic foreign investment. It also underscores both countries' commitment to investment-led cooperation that promotes sustainable mineral development, local value addition and shared economic growth.
