The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated the Government and people of Pakistan on the country’s 79th Independence Anniversary, commemorated on Friday, August 14, 2026.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, extended warm felicitations and best wishes to the Pakistani government and people on the national occasion.
The minister said Nigeria values its longstanding and cordial relations with Pakistan, noting that the bilateral ties are founded on mutual respect, shared interests, sovereign equality and a commitment to peaceful coexistence and international cooperation.
She described Pakistan as an important partner in Asia and acknowledged its contributions to regional and international peace, security and development.
According to the statement, Nigeria and Pakistan share common interests in addressing global challenges, including terrorism and violent extremism, climate change, food and energy insecurity, economic inequality and the need to create sustainable opportunities for their youthful populations.
The Federal Government expressed its readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in areas such as peace and security, sustainable development and economic growth.
It also identified agriculture, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, information and communications technology, education and healthcare as sectors with significant potential for mutually beneficial partnerships.
Nigeria further called for stronger private-sector engagement between both countries through increased interaction among businesses, investors, chambers of commerce and professional organisations.
The statement also highlighted opportunities for enhanced people-to-people relations through cooperation in education, culture, sports, tourism and professional exchanges.
As members of the Global South, Nigeria and Pakistan, according to the statement, share interests in sustainable development, climate action, technology transfer, food security, development financing and reforms of international financial and multilateral institutions.
The Federal Government said it looked forward to further strengthening Nigeria-Pakistan relations and exploring new areas of cooperation, stressing that stronger commercial partnerships and increased people-to-people exchanges would deepen the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
Nigeria also wished Pakistan continued peace, stability, prosperity and sustainable development.
