The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Monday coordinated the reception of 37 Nigerian nationals repatriated from the Republic of Türkiye at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as part of the Federal Government's ongoing efforts to facilitate the safe return and reintegration of stranded citizens.
The returnees arrived aboard a chartered flight following official notification from the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which informed NEMA of their scheduled arrival.
On arrival, the Abuja Operations Office (AOO) of the Agency activated a coordinated response involving relevant government institutions and humanitarian partners to ensure a smooth, dignified and orderly reception.
The exercise included registration and profiling of the returnees, medical screening, and the provision of immediate humanitarian assistance before they were handed over to the appropriate authorities for further reintegration support.
Speaking during the reception, the Head of NEMA Abuja Operations Office, Pharm. Zakari Abubakar, reaffirmed the Agency's commitment to protecting the dignity and welfare of returning Nigerians through effective inter-agency collaboration.
He said every returning citizen deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion and respect, urging the returnees to embrace the opportunity to rebuild their lives, remain law-abiding and take advantage of government reintegration programmes.
Abubakar also commended the collaboration among participating agencies, describing coordinated action as essential to ensuring efficient reception and sustainable reintegration of returning migrants.
Agencies that participated in the exercise included the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, airport authorities, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders.
