Planned Power Outage to Affect Bauchi, Gombe, Yola as NISO Announces TCN Maintenance

 

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced a planned outage on the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 330kV transmission line to allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carry out the connection of an Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) aimed at improving the national grid.

In a statement signed by Management, NISO said the outage will commence at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, and end at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

According to the statement, the maintenance work will require the temporary shutdown of the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 330kV transmission line, while the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132kV transmission line will also be taken out of service to ensure a safe working environment for engineers.

As a result, electricity supply will be interrupted in Bauchi, Gombe, Yola and surrounding areas throughout the maintenance period.

NISO explained that the installation of the Optical Ground Wire is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria's transmission infrastructure and improve the reliability, monitoring and communication capabilities of the national grid.

The system operator appealed to electricity market participants and consumers in the affected areas for their understanding and cooperation, while expressing regret over the temporary inconvenience the outage may cause.
