Oyo Rescue: Group Says Successful Operation Weakens Opposition's 2027 Narrative

The Democratic Front (TDF) has praised security agencies for the successful rescue of 44 pupils and teachers abducted by terrorists in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the operation as a major achievement in Nigeria's fight against insecurity.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Wale Adedayo, the group commended the professionalism, coordination and collaboration displayed by security agencies during the rescue mission.

According to the TDF, the operation represents a significant milestone in the Tinubu administration's efforts to combat terrorism and secure the release of kidnapping victims since assuming office in May 2023.

The group also claimed that some opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had become less vocal following the successful rescue after previously criticising the government over the abduction.

It alleged that the opposition had failed to present alternative policy proposals to challenge the administration's economic reforms and had instead focused on criticising government actions.

The TDF further argued that the successful rescue had undermined any attempt to use the Oyo abduction as a political issue against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group also accused the opposition leaders of failing to acknowledge what it described as the administration's achievements in security, infrastructure and economic development over the past three years.

The TDF urged security agencies and relevant authorities to remain focused on sustaining ongoing operations against terrorism, banditry and other forms of insecurity across the country.
