The Federal Government has called for an immediate de-escalation of the growing tensions between the Houthi militia in Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, warning that continued hostilities could threaten regional peace and stability.
The appeal was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, who said Nigeria was deeply concerned by the reported attacks and the worsening security situation.
The government urged all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint, avoid actions that could further inflame the conflict, and place the protection of civilian lives at the forefront of their decisions.
It also appealed to the parties to resolve their differences through dialogue, diplomacy and other peaceful mechanisms in line with the United Nations Charter and international law.
According to the statement, Nigeria believes that further escalation of the crisis would have far-reaching consequences for regional security and stability.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes and pledged support for all credible initiatives aimed at easing tensions, restoring calm and achieving lasting peace in the region.
