Representatives of ECOWAS Member States and Community Institutions have gathered in Freetown, Sierra Leone, for the 39th Meeting of the Administration and Finance Committee (AFC), where key administrative, financial and institutional issues are being reviewed to improve the operations of the regional bloc.
The meeting, which runs from July 12 to 14, 2026, is examining reports on budget execution, human resources, administration, finance and institutional performance, with recommendations expected to enhance the efficiency and accountability of ECOWAS institutions.
Delivering her opening remarks, the Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, said the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee offers an opportunity to celebrate the Community's accomplishments while reflecting on its challenges and aspirations for the future.
The ECOWAS Commissioner for Internal Services, Habibu Yaya Bappah, praised the Administration and Finance Committee for its dedication and effective oversight, saying its recommendations have helped position ECOWAS among Africa's best-performing regional economic communities.
Opening the session, Chairman of the Administration and Finance Committee, Komba Momoh, reaffirmed Sierra Leone's commitment to collaborating with ECOWAS Member States and Community Institutions to advance regional integration, peace, security and sustainable development.
The Administration and Finance Committee is one of ECOWAS' principal governance bodies, responsible for scrutinising administrative, financial and budgetary matters, promoting prudent management of Community resources and strengthening accountability across ECOWAS institutions.
Its deliberations are expected to contribute to the effectiveness, credibility and long-term sustainability of ECOWAS programmes as the regional organisation continues efforts to deepen integration and improve service delivery across West Africa.
