The Commission has called on political actors in to exercise restraint and embrace inclusive dialogue as part of efforts to preserve peace, constitutional order and democratic stability in the country.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the Commission reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Guinea-Bissau in fostering a peaceful, inclusive and nationally driven political process aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and maintaining national stability.
The regional body emphasized that meaningful dialogue among political stakeholders remains the most effective path to resolving differences and preventing actions that could threaten the country's peace and constitutional governance.
ECOWAS urged political leaders, institutions and other stakeholders to avoid actions or rhetoric capable of escalating tensions, stressing that cooperation and respect for democratic principles are essential to sustaining national unity and political stability.
The Commission noted that peaceful engagement and adherence to constitutional processes are critical to consolidating democracy and ensuring that political disputes are addressed through lawful and democratic means.
Reaffirming its support for the people and government of Guinea-Bissau, ECOWAS pledged to continue working with national authorities and relevant stakeholders to promote democratic governance, strengthen state institutions and foster lasting peace.
The Commission also reiterated its broader commitment to advancing peace, security and democratic governance across the West African region, assuring Guinea-Bissau of its continued solidarity as it navigates its political process.
