The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission will convene the inaugural meeting of the ECOWAS Air Transport Economic Oversight Committee (ECATEOC) from July 2 to 3, 2026, in Lomé, marking a significant step toward improving affordable, competitive and integrated air transport across the region.
The meeting will operationalize the regional economic oversight mechanism established under Supplementary Act A/SA.2/12/24 on charges, taxes and fees in civil aviation.
The mechanism is designed to strengthen oversight of aviation-related costs and support reforms aimed at making air travel more accessible within West Africa.
The two-day meeting will bring together senior aviation policymakers, regulators, industry stakeholders and strategic partners to advance the implementation of regional aviation reforms. Discussions will focus on reducing air transport costs, enhancing regional connectivity, promoting regulatory harmonization and deepening regional integration.
The initiative aligns with the objectives of the Economic Community of West African States Vision 2050, which seeks to foster sustainable economic growth, improved mobility and greater regional cooperation through an integrated air transport system.
