The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has launched its Field Awareness Campaign in The Gambia, aimed at promoting youth engagement and enhancing understanding of regional integration among young people.
The campaign, which commenced at Gambia Senior Secondary School, according to a statement on Thursday, attracted more than 250 students who participated in interactive sessions focused on regional integration, free movement of people, peace and security, and the opportunities available to citizens within the ECOWAS region.
Through presentations and discussions, students were encouraged to play active roles in fostering unity, cooperation, and development across West Africa.
A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of the ECOWAS Club Gambia, a student-led initiative designed to promote civic leadership, cultural exchange, active citizenship, and peaceful dialogue among young people in schools.

ECOWAS officials said the campaign forms part of broader efforts to raise awareness of the regional bloc's vision and empower the next generation to contribute meaningfully to a more integrated, peaceful, and prosperous West Africa.
The awareness campaign is expected to be expanded to more educational institutions across The Gambia, providing students with greater opportunities to engage with regional issues and strengthen their sense of belonging within the ECOWAS community.
