The Commandant of the Nigeria Security Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command Olusola Odumosu, PhD, has reaffirmed the Command's preparedness to strengthen partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), aimed at enforcing road rules and regulations.
Odumosu, stated this when he had in audience the new FCT Command sector Commander of the FRSC, Commander Tijani Illiyasu ,who paid a familiarisation visit to the Command at Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
The FCT Boss, in a statement by the FCT CDPRO, DSC Monica Ojobi, on Tuesday, who expressed confidence in the achievement of the two agencies through collaboration with the previous sector Commanders, noted that some Nigerians are very unruly when it comes to obeying traffic rules and regulations.
He said the enforcement and sustenance of a mobile court was the best approach to checking the excesses of road users in the FCT . "If there are no consequences or stiffer penalties imposed on those who break road traffic laws, no amount of efforts by the FRSC will restrain the recklessness of road users. You can be rest assured that our doors are always openned to work with you to ensure that sanity is restored to the FCT.
" We are pleased to go all the way with you to enforce arrest and immediate trial right there on the high way to serve as deterrent to other road users who may want to indulge in such suicidal missions; you can imagine drivers facing one way on the major high way like the airport road".
He lauded the sector commander for identifying with the Corps and his willingness to sustain the already established relationship by his predecessors.
"Your proactive engagement since assumption in officer is pointer to the fact that you have so much to place on the table, working with a compatriot like you who has the interest of not just the FCT at heart is a big deal for me, I assure you I am with you all the way" Odumosu stated.
Speaking earlier, the FRSC Sector commander, Tijani Illiyasu, decried the increasing rate of fatality on the high way, owing to the irresponsible driving behaviour of road users.
Illiyasu, said it was sad that this days, vehicles meant for goods are now bing used to convey people in horrible conditions which most often are responsible for increased crashes and subsequent fatality.
He disclosed that he will be launching a special patrol this week and sought the support of the NSCDC to actualise the project adding that since coming on board, he has deployed officers to major points to ensure restriction of movement of trucks at certain time of the day to ease traffic and avoidable crashes.
The Sector commander, commanded the FCT Commandant for his dynamic leadership and the drastic changes he has brought to bare on security architecture in the FCT stating that he was over joyed to work with him.
