FG Reaffirms Commitment To Enabling Environment For Housing Investment

 

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to creating an enabling environment for housing investment to thrive in Nigeria as part of efforts to boost affordable housing delivery across the country.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, stated this during a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of Shelter Advisory Services, Olayemi Rotimi Shodinmu, who visited to brief him on preparations for the upcoming Renewed Hope Housing PPP Summit.

Darma disclosed that the Ministry is partnering with Shelter Advisory Services for the second edition of the Renewed Hope Housing PPP Summit scheduled to hold on May 12, 2026, at the Yar’Adua Centre.

According to the Minister in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Badamasi Haiba, on Saturday said that housing remains a critical driver of economic growth, employment generation, and national development.

“Housing is more than shelter; it is a foundation for economic growth, job creation, and national development. Under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we are strengthening Public-Private Partnerships to unlock investment, scale delivery, and expand access to affordable homes,” he said.

Earlier, Shodinmu explained that the summit aims to move discussions on housing beyond policy formulation to practical implementation by translating policy clarity into investable projects with measurable impact on Nigerian communities.

He described Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) as the most viable pathway for mobilising long-term finance, aligning public land and infrastructure with private sector expertise, and delivering housing at the scale required in Nigeria.

He added that a technical training workshop for heads of housing agencies and developers would be held a day after the summit to focus on leveraging PPPs and Joint Ventures for housing development.

The workshop, according to him, is designed to strengthen housing financing structures and accelerate viable housing PPP projects across the country.

The summit will feature a keynote address by Elena Panaritis, an international expert in property rights reform, informal economies, and PPP-driven housing development.

Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour, while the Minister of Housing and Urban Development will deliver the ministerial address.
