2027: Rivers governor's cousin picks NDC guber forms, says Rivers 'll be OK Again

A day after the governor of Rivers state, Siminalayi Fubara, withdrew from the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship race, his relative, Amb Blessing Fubara Snr, has officially obtained the Expression of Interest Forms, to contest the Rivers State Governorship Election under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The dramatic development is already sending shockwaves across Rivers State and the national political landscape especially as the incumbent Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara announced his withdrawal from the race under unclear circumstances.

Amb. Blessing Fubara Snr., a renowned community development expert, value think tank, urban renewal strategist, and grassroots mobilizer, recently dumped the APC for the fast-rising opposition force, the NDC, declaring that Rivers State can no longer remain “captured by the selfish interest of just a few who have suffocated the hopes of the people since 1999.”

Speaking shortly after obtaining the governorship interest form, the youthful politician said his decision was inspired by overwhelming calls from across party lines, stakeholders, especially youths, professionals, traditional voices, and ordinary Rivers people demanding a new direction for the state.

“This movement is beyond politics. It is about rescuing the S.O.U.L of Rivers State,” he declared.

“For too long, the wealth of our state has not reflected in the lives of our people. Rivers people deserve transparency, justice, inclusion, development, and leadership that truly listens. The time has come to return decency, accountability, and hope to governance.”

In a direct message to the youths of Rivers State, Fubara Snr called for a generational uprising against political oppression and economic stagnation, urging young people to rally behind what supporters are now calling the “OK Movement” a fast growing political awakening built around the slogan: “Rivers Will Be OK Again.”

Political analysts say the emergence of Amb. Fubara Blessing Snr. under the NDC may significantly alter the political calculations ahead of 2027, particularly among young voters, grassroots blocs, and citizens disillusioned with the traditional power structure in the state.

The Opobo-born politician (Balolo of Opobo Kingdom) emphasized that Rivers State stands at a historic crossroads and cannot afford another cycle of political hostility, exclusion, and elite domination.

“We must build a Rivers State where every local government matters, where opportunities are not reserved for a few, and where government resources visibly impact the lives of ordinary citizens,” he stated.

He further promised to champion a governance model anchored on security, economic empowerment, youth inclusion, smart urban renewal, rural road development, healthcare advancement, education reform, and transparent public administration.

As news of his governorship ambition spreads across Rivers State, political observers say one thing is already certain: the 2027 governorship race has dramatically changed and Rivers politics may never remain the same again.

Amb. Blessing Fubara Snr. holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community Development and Adult Education and serves as the MD/CEO of D’Consiglories LLC.

Over the years, he has established himself as a respected development strategist and policy consultant with extensive involvement in public sector reforms, urban infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and socio-economic transformation initiatives across Rivers State and the Niger Delta region.

He previously served as Technical Assistant to the Rivers State Government on Employment Generation and Empowerment, Resource Consultant to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on Youth Development, and Consultant to the Rivers State Government on Urban Renewal and Infrastructure Development.
