ECOWAS Committee Deliberates In Extraordinary Session To Assess Vacant Positions, Recruitment

The ECOWAS Administration and Finance Committee (AFC) has met in Extraordinary Session to Access Vacant Positions and Recruitment Process within Institutions.

In his opening Statement,  Komba Momoh, the Chairman of the AFC emphasised matters of importance and significance to the functioning of the ECOWAS Commission. 

“it is our responsibility to ensure that the Commission is adequately staffed despite the exit of the Alliance of the Sahel States (AES)” he said in a statement by the Directorate of Communication, on Wednesday.

The Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, Damtien L. Tchintchibidja,  reaffirmed the Community’s commitment to unity, cohesion, and operational continuity following the departure of staff from the three AES Member States. 

She emphasised the financial constraints facing the Community, the urgent need to fill vacant D and P5 positions, and the importance of a transparent recruitment process supported by an independent firm. 

She called on AFC members for guidance and collaboration to ensure that the organisation remains equipped to deliver on its mandate despite the challenges posed by reduced community levy contributions and ongoing institutional adjustments.

“Your approval is crucial at this critical juncture in our organisation’s history. As we navigate the challenges posed by the withdrawal and the low community levy contributions your guidance will enable us to move forward with the recruitment process, ensuring that our organisation is equipped to deliver on its mandate and meet the needs of our community.” She added.
