The Ministry of Petroleum Resources held the closing ceremony of the second edition of its annual Management Games, marking the end of a vibrant and engaging week-long season of sportsmanship, teamwork and staff bonding.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, which held on Tuesday in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emeka Vitalis Obi, commended the leadership of the Sports Club and all participating teams for delivering yet another impactful edition of the Games.
According to a statement by the Head, Press & Public Relations Unit, Chris Ugwuegbulam he reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to supporting sporting activities within and outside Abuja, stressing that sports remain a powerful unifying force that deepens team spirit, enhances harmony and promotes overall staff wellbeing
Dr. Obi further assured the Sports Club of management's full backing as its contingent prepares for the forthcoming Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA) scheduled to hold in Adamawa State.
In his goodwill remarks, the National President of the Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA), Comrade Aloku Amaebi, expressed appreciation to the Permanent Secretary for his consistent support to the Sports Club and for his active engagement in FEPSGA’s programmes at the national level. He applauded the Ministry for sustaining the legacy of integrating sports into public service culture since 1984, an effort, he noted, continued to foster unity, encourage physical fitness and boost productivity across MDAs.
Earlier, the Sports Manager, Mr. Egule Ineukiye Lang, extended his gratitude to all teams for their discipline, dedication and competitive spirit throughout the Games. He also acknowledged the Ministry’s leadership for sustaining the initiative and for the timely release of resources, which ensured a smooth and successful event.
Egule emphasized that sporting activities within the public service are firmly rooted in "staff welfare", which remains one of the six pillars of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP25).
This year’s edition featured 17 competitive sporting events, including football, volleyball, handball, badminton, chess, scrabble, draught, Ludo, Ayoo and darts, among others. Each sport contributed to an atmosphere of healthy competition, unity and organisational bonding.
The diversity of the games ensured wide staff participation, enabling people with different interests and abilities to find representation, ultimately making the second edition a memorable experience for all stakeholders.
In the final medals table, Team Permanent Secretary emerged overall champions with 9 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. Team Directors finished second with 4 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals, while Team Gas secured third place with 3 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze. Team HMS Oil came fourth with 1 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of medals and awards to the teams and participants across various categories, adding colour to the grand finale.
