The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray, has canvassed for predictable funding for African peace support operations.
He spoke when he took part in the first Biennial Summit for a Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient Global Economy on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly.
A statement by ECOWAS Directorate of Communication on Saturday said in his speech, Touray stressed that peace and stability are essential for development, calling for predictable funding for African peace support operations.
He also highlighted the key role of regional economic communities in integration and growth, as well as the need to strengthen institutions, mobilise internal resources, involve the private sector and use innovative financing to ensure sustainable and inclusive development.
ECOWAS thus reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to strong global partnerships and a people-centred international agenda.
