ECOWAS, Ethiopia, Strengthen Regional Cooperation

ECOWAS Commission and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia have met in a a strategic effort to deepen regional collaboration on issues of mutual interest, particularly the political and security dynamics in Ethiopia and the wider horn of Africa region.

The discussion was held when President of the ECOWAS Commission,Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, received in audience Ambassador Legesse Geremew Haile, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, during a courtesy visit to the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja. 

According to a statement on Friday, the visit provided an opportunity for both leaders to exchange views on issues of mutual interest, particularly the political and security dynamics in Ethiopia and the wider Horn of Africa region.

Ambassador Haile highlighted the efforts of the Government of Ethiopia in consolidating peace, deepening regional cooperation, and promoting socio-economic development both in the country and region. 

In his response, ECOWAS President   assured Ambassador Haile of ECOWAS’ continued support for efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability, and development in the Horn of Africa.

He noted that inter-regional dialogue and cooperation are vital to addressing transnational threats and advancing the African Union’s Agenda 2063 vision for “The Africa We Want.”
